Established Munich-based DJ, producer and label head Simion has been making house music since his early 20s. Spending his youth absorbed in Germany’s house and techno scene Simion cut his teeth watching sets from the likes of Sven Väth, Westbam, M.A.N.D.Y., Bookashade, and DJ T, often travelling across the country for the biggest parties – “Growing up in Germany was all about House and Techno music for me. I’d go clubbing in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, anywhere I could. I always knew I wanted to make music.”
“Vocals are a big thing for me. I have roots in disco music so I’m always looking for soulful vocals to work with, on my own tracks, and on all our Hedonism releases. There is a great saying: don’t trust anyone who claims to like house or techno music but talks s*** about disco.”
Releasing music under numerous guises in an already impressive career, his first big success as Simion came from remixing Ben Pearce’s ‘What I Might Do`, which put Simion’s name on the map and marked the start of a string of high charting releases, including three on Andre Crom’s prestigious OFF Recordings.
Following these he also teamed up with Coyu’s label Suara to release two major records: ‘Give You Love’ which was played across the nation on BBC Radio1 Pete Tong and won wide support from the likes of Hot Natured and Mark Farina and ‘Lost In Deep’ which had a welcome boost from inclusion in Solomun’s BPM Boiler Room set earlier this year.
And then there’s his aforementioned label, Hedonism, set up as a home for his own productions and DJs new and established, that he feels belongs to the Hedonism sound. “Having released music through various labels for years, I decided I wanted my own platform for my releases and to help showcase DJs and tracks I really believe in.” Sticking by the motto of quality over quantity Hedonism has released a string of acclaimed tracks and mixes since its inception, from DJs as varied as Kolombo, Miguel Campbell, Darius Syrassion, Paul C & Paolo Martini, Kevin Knapp, Florian Kruse, Ian Metty, Stu Patrics, Teenage Mutants, Oliver $, André Crom & Chi Thanh, Phonique, Johannes Brecht and Betoko.
He recently had also releases on Berlin´s Mother Recordings label, Low Steppa´s Simma Black imprint and in fall a new release on Riva Starr´s Snatch Records!
He returns to his label this October for his next release, ‘Dance’, complete with remixes by Raumakkustik.
On top of all this, Simion made number 54 in Beatport’s best Deep House Producer chart and had two of his tracks in the top 100 best Deep House tracks of the year. Summer 2015 also saw a spot at Sankey’s IMS party in Ibiza, which he plans to follow up in 2016 with lots more Ibiza dates.
